For many of us, the coming holiday season brings the joy of decorating our homes to celebrate and share. This is a pleasure that extends to tenants too remember.

Listen up everyone; whether a landlord, homeowner, property manager or tenant, here are a few suggestions relating to festive season safety to keep in mind but also to pass on. An extra caution is a simple step to toward ensuring your property remains safe from any potential dangers.

Whether it is an indoor tree lit up, or an impressive outdoor light display for all to see, there are some considerations to be aware of. Added pressure on the power source can also mean a bigger bill, whether yourself or tenants, not a gift anyone likely wants to receive.

Handy tips:

  • Check old lights prior to use and discard any that are damaged.
  • Use indoor lights indoor, and outdoor lights outdoor.
  • Ensure placement of a decoration is safe and secure
  • Don’t leave festive lights on when you are absent from the property.
  • Don’t leave festive displays running for lengthy periods of time.
  • Keep decorative window lights clear from curtains, as they can sometimes overheat

There is clear distinction between indoor and outdoor lights and it’s important they’re used for their intended purpose.

There are many products on the market and some that are relatively inexpensive. Unfortunately this means that they are not all as good as they should be.

A gentle reminder of the above, along with well wishes, is a good way for us to stay connected with each other and help ensure your property remains safe and sound.
