Hollywood special effects guru teams up with RE/MAX

RE/MAX Real Estate Services in Cairns had a serious encounter with Hollywood fame when the office listed a classic tree-change property on the Atherton Tablelands.

Oscar winner Jerry Jeffress, and his wife Melissa, engaged broker owner Tony Williamson and sales associate Ray Murphy to sell the property they’d purchased in 1990.

Mr Williamson described the Watsonville property as approximately 40 private acres, off the grid.

“The Jeffress’ love the place and say their 30 years of living here have been the best 30 years of their life, but have decided that they are at an age where they will move nearer to family in Cairns,” Mr Williamson said.

Jerry Jeffress was the expert behind the special effects in the Star Wars movies, Ghostbusters, ET, Indiana Jones and Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

He won three Academy Awards for Special Effects in Motion Pictures; and was in Hollywood in the early days of special effects and pioneered many industry-changers.

Mr Williamson said the property presented as an amazing opportunity and a very special buy.

“The property has been solar-powered for more than 25 years and has never seen a day without power. It has a NBN satellite service and telephone land line.

“The main house is made of stone, timber and steel, has open plan living downstairs and a bedroom and craft studio with balcony upstairs. A 46m2 steel building adjacent includes the laundry, and nearby is a separate steel building on two metre steel stumps, with verandas on two sides and wonderful views. This houses the master bedroom suite of around 50m2. There is about 200m2 of total living space, and a two car shed and carport.

“No pesticides have been used on the property in the last 27 years. Its water supplies are from Toy Creek and the Walsh River, to which there is a legal easement. Total rainwater storage is about 11,000 litres. The incredible flora and fauna just have to be experienced.”

The property is listed at $259,000.
